Germany's minister for education and research Annette Schavan said India would be the most important partner for the Seventh Framework Programme which was an important instrument of innovation. The programme will fund research and development activities by companies and government entities in the fields of information technology, biotechnology, energy and the environment. The invitation was made at an India-EU Ministerial Science Conference in New Delhi and was accepted by India's minister for science and technology Kapil Sabil who said energy was a key issue. He added that India and the EU could work on the development and deployment of clean-coal energy, solar energy and hybrid fuels for automobiles.
